23/04/2008 - WINDLESHAM WARRIORS (U9’s) : AT THE U9’s FINAL

WINDLESHAM WARRIORS (U9’s) : AT THE U9’s FINAL

What a morning and what a match, the coach arrived on time and everybody was early, the boys were singing their songs (including “The Mighty Mighty Windlesham” – video available) all the way to the final.  We had Windlesham Warrior flags flying in the back of the coach.  On arrival we stole the show with our team coach and banners, a little intimidation!

The game under way, the boys (and that is all the boys) played their hearts out, at full time it was 1-1 and all spectators will agree that our hearts were in our mouths, is this our game today, but no, in injury time a fluke goal made it 2-1 to the opposition with no time left on the clock and nothing left in their tanks.  Football can be a cruel game, and emotions were obvious at the end, but this team of Warriors have achieved so much this season and made us so proud. You could see in their faces and by their actions that they have come so far this season.  If you didn’t know our opponents are a division above us.

We had a great a turn out of supporters, magic; it helped to make the match something the boys will not forget in a hurry.  The medals were meaningful and something for the mantle piece.  After the boys received their medals, they all started the team song at full volume “The Mighty Mighty Windlesham”.  That made an impression on all in ear shot.

We may not have won but we achieved what a lot of people thought impossible.

Steve, Nigel and I, and well and the rest of the supporters enjoyed a few drinks for celebration purposes only down the pub after the game, the boys made us proud and this had to be recognised.  Sleep on Sunday night was easy to find, or was it a drink induced coma, not sure and don’t care – it was a great day had by all.

Go Warriors……………………………..

07/01/2008 - WVFC Under 7's in Windlesham Magazine (January 2008)

Windlesham Village FC Under 7’s were proud to welcome Jeff Healy of the Jinky Johnstone Trust to the Field of Remembrance on Sunday.

The Trust was set up in memory of Jimmy Johnston or Jinky as he was affectionately known, a member of the famous Celtic European Cup winning team of 1967.  This was the first time this magnificent trophy had been brought to these shores and their victory was in no small measure due to his ‘jinking’ runs down the flanks which bewildered many a defender.

The Trusts aim is to aid football development at grass roots level and Windlesham Village presented its first opportunity to do so outside of Scotland.  Their donation of a free football strip bearing the Trust’s logo was gratefully received by the club and as you would expect, caused huge excitement amongst the children!

26/09/2007 - Coaches run for Charity
Three WVFC coaches (Jason, Pat and Brian) braved the wind and the rain to run in the Hampton Court 10K race, to raise money for Cancer Research.  Great fun was had by all, mainly by their team of supportors.
